Just Married: Tanya and Grish’s Brisbane Wedding
I walked in, kicked off my boots and said hi to Grish, Jazzy, Tanya, and eventually Val and Harry appeared, as did Tony (aka. Big T). Familiar faces in this house that is also so very familiar. This is the very house where we used to have sleepovers and obsess over Ewan McGregor in Moulin Rouge (…and Star Wars… and maybe weirdest of all, Trainspotting). Powderfinger and the Gin Club, Charles Foster Kane and the Beatles were a constant backing track to life in this home.
This is the place we would come back to after nights out in the Valley when we had just turned 18 and felt sahhh cosmopolitan sippin’ on Malibu and Coke in our one shouldered tops, flared jeans and etnies, a pair of giggling girls sneaking home in the wee hours, trying (and probably failing) to not wake Val and Harry. Colette, Tanya and I all went to the same high school and can hold each other to ransom with vivid memories of our respective very awkward teenage years.
This is the home where Tanya grew up. Yesterday, inside this home, she and her beloved Grish got ready to become husband and wife. In this street, they saw each other as Bride and Groom for the first time. Yesterday we had the pleasure of meeting Grish’s family (I tried to speak Russian with the non-english speaking rellies… I failed) and seeing them surround this sweet couple with so much love and celebration. In fact, Grish’s Dad George is a Russian Orthodox priest and married the two. It was such an honour for Colette and I to record these images for Tanya and her BFG.
Seeing you both so freakin’ happy, adventuring all over this world, racing boats, loving so deeply, working hard and dreaming of an even bigger and more adventurous life is all that we could ever hope for our dearest friend.
