Yesterday Ashlinn and Ben and their absolute closest, nearest and dearest family and friends (plus some chooks, and a dog) gathered under a big fig tree. I’d typically say something about their solemn vows, but those of you who know Ashlinn and Ben know there’s not much solemn about them. Ashlinn had warned us about Ben, but she need not have worried! He was being relatively well behaved and most importantly keeping his beautiful bride laughing the whole time.
I don’t know if it was the Harvest sourdough, or the warm and uncharacteristically bright sunshine all damn day (it rains a lot in Byron!), or the macadamia groves or the big old figs or the long green grass or the eternal blue of the ocean on the horizon, or those dodgy swiss-cheese back roads, or the beer in the champagne glasses we were handed post-ceremony but Byron Bay is hearts’ home to Lara and I, and we were both so freakin’ happy to be there and welcomed into this wonderful tight-knit gang.
