Soph & Andy’s Vibrant Gabbinbar Wedding

Soph and Andy’s Gabbinbar wedding was loud in all the best possible ways: packed with colour, cocktails, sparklers and more joy than one blog post can hold! If you’re planning a wedding at Gabbinbar and you want a day that feels like a party rather than a photoshoot, you’ve landed in a pretty good spot!

A vibrant Gabbinbar wedding full of fun!

We love Gabbinbar. We say it a lot, and we’ll keep saying it. Its one of the venues we capture weddings at the most, and it’s worth the trek to Toowoomba every. single. time! The iconic gardens, the grand old buildings, and the most incredible service, and then there’s a bunch of other beautiful details you just won’t experience unless you get to go to (or hold) a wedding at Gabbinbar.

Soph and Andy took those beautiful grounds and they made it theirs. Fuchsia bridesmaids & bridesman who popped against every green hedge on the property. A cocktail tower ready to greet the guests the minute the ceremony concluded really set the tone for the party bit. Pink, everywhere, ironically Soph said her favourite colour is yellow! But anyway, the wedding was decidedly bold from the Manolos to the margaritas. It was bright, it was fun, and it perfectly matched these two gorgeous humans.

Why late April is a beautiful time to get married in Toowoomba

Soph and Andy married in late April (Anzac day to be exact!), and the Toowoomba weather was just perfection. Mellow light, soft warmth, nobody gettin’ tooooo sweaty (until the d-floor!), cozy fires. That gentle autumn light is part of why these photos feel so easy and golden.

If you’re weighing up a date for a Gabbinbar wedding, autumn is pretty damn good. The gardens are still lush, the temperature is kind, and while the sun is setting a little earlier, the quality of light is beautiful. It’s worth thinking about rolling your ceremony back a little earlier to make sure there’s plenty of time (and light!) for the iconic Gabbinbar garden party. Luckily, the Gabbinbar team are super experienced at guiding their couples to get the most out of every part of their day – lighting included!

Colour, cocktails and a whole lot of joy!

When people are relaxed and having an actual great time, that comes through in every single image we take. How you feel while the photos are being taken is how you’ll feel about them every time you look back, for the rest of your life. A tense, awkward shoot gives you tense, awkward photos forever. We are sooooo very mindful of making sure our couples and all their guests are relaxed, not feeling like they’re being held hostage by us and our cameras, or like they’re being followed relentlessly by paparazzi while they’re trying to scoff some canapés.

Buuut, a day full of laughing, legit happy memories (no pretending to laugh!), dancing and the smiling faces of all your favourite people gives you something you’ll want to look at again and again.

Two photographers, the whole time

Every Cloud Catcher wedding has two experienced studio photographers. Not one photographer and an assistant. Not a second shooter you pay extra for. Two of us, both full-time, both knowing exactly what we’re doing, who have captured hundreds of hours’ worth of Gabbinbar weddings together, for your whole day.

While one of us is with Soph as the fuchsia crew gets ready, the other is with Andy. When one is doing crazy dance floor duty alongside Soph and Andy (shout out to the speedy sunnies that made their way onto every head including Grandad’s!), the other is off capturing stories around the homestead that Soph and Andy didn’t see happening. Nothing important slips past, because there are always two sets of eyes on the good stuff.
